HUNGER

The Zallie Community Foundation is a vital partner in hunger relief and efforts end food insecurity.
According to the Food Bank of South Jersey, 1 in 7 South Jersey residents do not always know where their next meal is coming from. The Covid-19 pandemic heightened the problem of food insecurity due to an increase in demand and a decrease in food donations. This increase was most significant in children, with 17.3% of New Jersey children facing hunger daily.

Stamp Out Hunger 5K

Every Labor Day, the Stamp Out Hunger 5k & 1 Mile Walk event draws hundreds of participants and generates tens of thousands of dollars from corporate sponsorships and registration fees. 100% of the registration fees goes directly to the Food Bank of South Jersey. The proceeds from the sponsorship funds are split between the FBSJ and ShopRite’s Partners In Caring program, an initiative that supports over 2,200 food banks, soup kitchens, food pantries, and other organizations that are on the front lines of fighting hunger.

SUPPORT FOR LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES

Together with the Zallie Family Markets organization, we identify local food pantries in need of support and schedule pick up opportunities for them at each of the eleven ShopRite stores to donate their non-sellable food. Since this program began, we have donated over $2 million of food to the food in secure. If you are a food pantry in need in our service areas, please fill out a request to be added to the schedule. If there is an opening, we will contact you to work out the details.

NON-PROFIT GRANTS

The Zallie Community applies for local, state, and federal grants to aid in the fight against food insecurity.
